What is a Reiki Treatment?

The client lies fully clothed on a massage table and often is wrapped in a blanket. The practitioner places a silk pillow over the eyes to allow for deep relaxation. She then places her hands on or just above specific regions of the body from the head to the toes to feel for the places where stagnant energy accumulates. Through changes in subtle vibrations through the hands, Reiki is able to break up stale energetic ‘grit’ and allow for an even flow of energy throughout the body.
Many individuals report feeling cold, pulsating heat or a tingling sensation during a session, and most enter a calm, relaxed state. In some, chronic or acute pain can diminish or completely vanish. Sometimes allergies and other infirmities completely disappear. It's different for each person.
It's important to remember that, whatever is troubling us, 'we didn't get this way overnight’ and we won't 'recover overnight’, either. Reiki is not any more magical than any other modality or allopathic medicine. Healing takes commitment and it takes time... one moment at a time.
Treatments are generally one hour in length. Initially, three or four sessions over ten to fourteen days are recommended to remove entrenched blocks in your energy system; then once a week or once every two weeks until the issue has resolved. You will begin to notice some improvement after the first session.

Clients are advised not to eat a heavy meal in the two hours preceding treatment and to drink plenty of water or herbal tea post-treatment to help pass the toxins.

Clients are also advised to take a hot Epson salt bath within 24 hours after treatments to allow for toxins to pass easily out of the body.

The simplicity of a Reiki session may raise some skepticism, however, after experiencing it, many clients keep coming back for more of those relaxing feelings.
